Abdul Halim Ali, MA, a veteran sociologist, one of the pioneering members of the Department of Anthropology and Sociology of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) who helped set up the department in May 1970 when the university was being established. He taught sociology in UKM for more than three decades, serving in various capacities including as Dean of the Faculty of Development Science. After retiring from UKM, he moved to Sarawak where he was appointed professor and Chair of Nusantara Studies at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak for several years until full retirement. Ahmad Fauzi Abdul Hamid, PhD, is professor of political science at the School of Distance Education, and consultant researcher at the Centre for Policy Research and International Studies, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang. A graduate of Oxford, Leeds and Newcastle universities, his research on Islam in Southeast Asia earned him visiting fellowships in Singapore in 2008-09 and 2015-16. An author of over forty articles in leading journals, four well-cited monographs and book chapters, he sits on the editorial boards of several journals, including Kajian Malaysia: Journal of Malaysian Studies and Kemanusiaan: Asian Journal of Humanities. Azmyl Yusof (@Azmyl Yunor) MA, is a lecturer at Sunway University Malaysia, a bi-lingual singer-songwriter, musician, and producer who has performed at festivals and venues in countries around the region. He has published works in the area of music subcultures and mediated moral panics, and mainstream media reportage during general elections. Farah Purwaningrum, Dr. Phil. (Universität Bonn), a sociologist with an interdisciplinary background in law, whose research interests focus on science studies and ethnographic research methods. Her research on science studies revolves around Asian studies, urban development, and public health. Ghazally Ismail, PhD, retired professor in Microbiology and Immunology, with his last post as founding Vice Chancellor of the University College of Sabah Foundation (UCSF), Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia where he served from 2013 to 2017. Prior to that, he was instrumental in the establishment of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Sabah Campus (UKMS) where he served as the Dean of Science for a number of years (1981-1993). After that, he was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Services at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) from 1994–2001. He is a passionate naturalist and environmentalist, and a prolific writer who has published widely in both technical journals and popular magazines on flora and fauna especially in Borneo. Jomo K.S., PhD, an internationally renowned political economist, prolific writer, commentator, thinker and public intellectual who has authored over 35 monographs, edited over 50 books and translated 12 volumes besides writing many articles and commentaries. After a distinguished career as professor of development economics at Universiti Malaya, Jomo took up the post of UN Assistant Secretary General (Economic and Social Affairs) (2005-2012), and UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Assistant Director General & Coordinator for Economic and Social Development (until retirement in 2015). He was a member of the Stiglitz Commission of Experts of the President of the United Nations General Assembly on Reforms of the International Monetary and Financial System, and in 2007, awarded the Wassily Leontief Prize for Advancing the Frontiers of Economic Thought. Upon returning to Malaysia a few years ago, he was appointed as holder Tun Hussein Onn Chair in International Studies at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS), and appointed into the 5-member Council of Eminent Persons advising the Pakatan Harapan Government on economics and finance, and institutional reforms following the historic 14th General Elections on May 9th 2018 in Malaysia.

Kartini Aboo Talib @ Khalid, PhD, associate professor in policy analysis, and a senior fellow at the Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She is also the deputy director of KITA. She researches on gender, civil society, comparative politics, ethnicity, and consumerism. She has published chapters in books and scholarly articles on various issues pertaining to policy including alternative dispute resolutions and consumer rights, ethnicity and consumerism, labour law and immigrants, gender and politics, non-profit and policy implementation, election and environmental policy and sustainability. Mohd Hariszuan Jaharuddin, MSocSc, a research fellow at Institute of Malaysia and International Studies (IKMAS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He received a Master of Social Science in Political Science from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) with a thesis on activism of urban Malay youth. His recent articles were published in Kajian Malaysia (Universiti Sains Malaysia), UUM Press (Universiti Utara Malaysia) and SIRD. Beside of academic writing, he is also involved in book translation and popular writing for various publishers. Nor Hayati Sa’at, PhD, a development sociologist whose work focuses on coastal communities, with particular reference to social mobility and social change.
